A Fairy Tale Project

My daughter loves the Disney Princess but she is getting to the age where she is almost getting past the princess stage. I wanted to capture her at this age with all of her dress up clothes. Here is a 8x10 I created of pictures of her. I had another project planned out of her in each of the costumes but I had a hard time choosing just one of each picture. This way it displays several of each.

The lighting isn't the best in this pictures. I was having a really hard time with that. I'm not a professional photographer by no means but I was trying my best. I did touch up several pictures in photoshop that had turned out too dark or there was minor fixing to do.

I really like photography. I like design of course. I think that is why I like photography, you can create some really personal work. That is the key.. creativity. If it involves me thinking up how to create something out of the box, I love it.

This was done for a Fathers Day gift. It balanced out nicely that Dad is three letters and there were three kids.

I was scared at first. The day of the small shoot was windy and soo hot. The kids were cranky and were worried about their hair blowing everywhere. Well it was, but with a few tools in photoshop I fixed a lot of it. I wanted to use jumbo sized wood letters that the kids held or sat on or leaned against, but I never made it to the store to purchase them. So photoshop saved me again. :)

Even though the kids hated the day of the pictures, they really liked how the picture turned out. And it looked nice in a white frame and a white matte. Very nice.

I still really love making Photo Card Invitations. Here is a precious little girls birthday party invite. I softened the picture to bring out more of the soft colors and it made it a little more pink to blend in with the rest of the pink shades. I am planning on a few more girl invitations and then I will be moving on to some boy themed invites.

It seems like I haven't really done much design work this month. I've been working on a website in class and it has taken up a lot of my time. It's turning out nicely. I'll share that once it goes live on the internet.

I do still play around. The most recent graphic was the blog header that I designed for my personal blog just in time for the Valentine holiday. I thought it was cute for the holiday spirit...

Adobe Bridge

My new found love on my Mac. This was a hidden treasure that I didn't even realize I had. On my computer is Creative Suite 4 which Bridge comes with CS2, CS3, and CS4 so I had it this entire time without realizing it and was thrilled to learn about the program. I am taking a Digital Imaging class now and we jumped right into this program to help manage and organize our photos. This is great for photographers, and designers who may have a ton of photos that need organized, watermarked, copyrighted and more.

With Adobe Bridge you can view large amounts of images, rate the images from 1 to 5, view EXIP metadata, apply ITPC metadata, filter images, batch rename the entire set of images with a click of a mouse, and open files in Adobe Camera Raw or Photoshop, create galleries or slideshows in Flash or HTML. This software is such a time saver! I look forward to working more in Bridge.

Website Mockup & Floor Plans for Coffee Shop

For part of the Coffee & Cookies Branding, I was to design a mockup website for the company. This took elements that I previously had designed and put them together. The colors, my picture of the coffee, beans & cookies, and the logo design. I really like how all this came together. I didn't post my layout plans that I sketched out for the coffee shop, but the sign and menu inside the restaraunt is also on the wall with a chain so I copied that into the layout of the design for this webpage.

I had a project to design a 10-15 second web commercial that would be scattered across the web for Coffee and Cookies. This is the one that I drew up for the slogan... Coffee and Cookies.. Just Heavenly.

This was a lot of fun. I've never done storyboarding before and found it really interesting! I love the artsy, sketch part of the project. Simple, but attention getting thumbnails.

Promotional Advertising

For one of my recent lab projects in my classes, I was to design two versions of a promotional ad for the same fictional company.. Coffee & Cookies. Unity, Balance, Perspective, Typography, Composition, and anything else that would make the ad "pop" These are the two that I decided on. The first ad, Coffee & Cookies, is actually a darker brown. The picture that downloaded to my blog is a little off on colors. I need to figure out what causes this.. it happens a lot!

Right now I am playing around with action words in typography. With action words you are trying to express what the word is trying to communicate to you. I have been having alot of fun with these! In one of my art classes I was to do one for an assignment of mine and here is the one I worked on. I love how it turned out! I will be doing more and posting those too....

UFC Flag

The Ultimate Fighting Championship flag arrived from the printers today. I'm very happy with how the flag turned out. The printing company that I found was great in everyway possible - great service, wonderful printing, fast printing, excellent prices & amazing 2 day shipping. The company has 4 locations... 1 in the US and the other 3 elsewhere. Thinking that my design went to California I was a little shocked when the FedEx package arrived from China! Also, the client really liked the flag too, which is the important part! You can click on the picture to enlarge it....

Anime's

I love seeing anime graphics and drawings. I've never attempted one but I have the desire to learn. Here is my first one.. a very simple anime character! On downtime, I am wanting to do a little more and get into full body, full color with different characters. The next anime I try, will have her eyes open! And the long hair would of looked cool with her body drawn out. But not bad for a first try at it....

New Epson PictureMate Dash

This is my most recent purchase for my business. I am offering Announcements, Save the Dates, Invitations and more with 4x6 Photo Cards. The Epson PictureMate Personal Photo Lab Dash was voted the #1 printer for photos. I was soo excited to get this! I found the best price on amazon.com and it was shipping to me in a day. I have already tried it out on Graduation Invitations and they look beautiful. The print quality is stunning. I only had two issues... 1. I thought that I would be able to print on 8 1/2 x11 photo sheets but this is a tiny printer for only 4x6's. 2. The printer only came with about 20 photo cards and enough ink for just those. So I'm off to buy some more paper and ink!

It has taken a little longer then I thought sorting thru all the details for my new site. I am so excited to get it up and live, but I am soo inpatient for everyone to see it! Here is what the layout of my new site will look like once I get it online. I have changed the look of the site soo many times in the past month, but this one I am happy with. It is extremely hard to design for yourself. I want to display want I can do, make it fun, creative but also professional. What do you all think of my design? I am finally able to order my business cards! YAY.. it's an exciting feeling. One more thing to check off my list. I had to wait to order them until I bought my domain name for my website. Cannot have a business card without the website name added! That is another HUGE item to check off my list... my domain name. Finally www.designsandmore.net is MINE! It's official as of today. It's going to take a few days to get it up and going but atleast the space is mine. Here is my business card layout. I forgot to add a border for viewing.. but you should get the idea!

There are so many themes and color schemes that I can get a little overwhelmed trying to decide which ones to work on first! I am wanted to make as many as possible for others to use on their blogs. Digital Scrapbooking

I started out scrapbooking with all the cardstock, stamps, inks, stickers, embellishments and so on. I really liked it but it is horrible dragging all that out and cleaning it up afterwards. I have books filled with traditional scrapbooking. Then I started noticing all the wonderful pages people were starting to do over the computer. I thought they looked beautiful. I already had photoshop from all my design work, so I thought I'd give it a try. I sat there and just stared at the first page that I did. It didn't require lugging all those supplies and piling my dining room table with it all. It doesn't require going to the store and spending what extra money I had on pages worth of embellishments. In fact it is alot more eco-friendly this way. No scraps to throw away, no glues, its paperless. Except for printing them out on photo paper. Will I scrapbook traditionally again? Of course, I have books to finish and supplies to use up. But I will most defiently create a ton of digital scrapbook pages and albums for myself and for others! I wanted to share a graduation invitation that I worked on today. I thought this was such a great photo to use. I loved the purple converse.. this made for a great color scheme! The photographer was Katzer Photographry. I designed the graphics and layout.

I will be designing photo cards for Baby boy/girl, Sonograms, Baby Showers, Themed Birthdays, Save the Dates, Weddings, Christmas, New Years, Easter/Spring, Valentines Day, Summer, School, Halloween, Thanksgiving, New Addresses, Thank you's, and more.
